HAVANA, Cuba.- On May 19 and 20 it will take place the Popular Exercise of Actions in Disaster Situations “Meteor 2018”, it was reported in the National Staff of the Civil Defense in Havana, with the presence of its chief, Major General Ramon Pardo Guerra.

To strengthen capacities to confront earthquakes, hurricanes, intense drought and sanitary disasters is the objective of the day, for which the indications of the President of the National Defense Council will be taken into account.

“Meteor 2018” Exercise includes the preparation of the management and command bodies, and practical actions to face disaster hazards and vulnerability reduction with the participation of institutions and people.

During this century Cuba has been whipped by 30 tropical cyclones, ten of them tropical storms, twenty hurricanes, ten of great intensity, which demonstrates the need to be more and more prepared to avoid loss of human lives and economic resources.
