DUBLIN, Ireland. – Miguel Diaz-Canel Bermudez, President of the Republic of Cuba, was greeted by the Prime Minister of Ireland, Leo Varadkar, as part of his official visit to that European nation, which began on Sunday.

On its Twitter profile, the Cuban Chancellery reported that Diaz-Canel visited Kilmainham Prison, a facility that is part of Ireland’s political and criminal history, reflecting Ireland’s tribute for independence.

The Cuban President was also greeted on this morning by Irish President Michael Higgins at his official residence of Arasan Uachtaráin, located in Phoenix Park, in the north of Dublin, the Irish capital.

On his visit to that country, Diaz-Canel wrote on his Twitter account: Ireland is an island like Cuba and we are united by many historical sentiments. We are two nearby island villages in the same sea of struggle and hope.
