UNITED NATIONS, New York.- The Permanent Representative of Syria to the UN, Bashar al-Jaafari, denounced the interference of Western powers in his country, where they maintain a military presence and hinder the political process.

The official questioned that France and the United Kingdom have just praised at the Security Council the American decision to maintain occupying forces in a part of Syria, when the resolutions of that body reaffirm the sovereignty, independence and territorial unity of my nation.

The Syrian people is the only one who has the right to decide on their future, and it will do so without foreign interference, Bashar al-Jaafari assured the Security Council.

Some members of the Security Council spoke of a huge amount of rejection, denial and preconditions for the political process, Al Jaafari said and in that regard, he expressed his solidarity and empathy with the Special envoy for Syria, Geir Pedersen.
