Beirut, Lebanon.- The Speaker of the Lebanese Parliament, Nabih Berri, spoke Wednesday with the Cuban Ambassador, Alexander Pellicer, about the good state of bilateral relations and the will to strengthen ties among MPs.

Both personalities stressed both governments’ collaboration in all international and multilateral forums and meetings.

Pellicer offered an explanation to the head of the Lebanese legislators about the Cuban economic situation and the damages caused by the blockade imposed by the United States, the main obstacle to the Cuba economic development.

The Cuban diplomat affirmed that after Donald Trump’s inauguration as head of the White House, all kinds of sanctions against Cuba were intensified.

Pellicer also explained the Constitution drafting and approval process, which exemplifies the way participatory democracy is applied in Cuba.

Berri praised Cuba’s resistance and its leading role in the international arena, as well as the humanitarian work of its doctors around the world, particularly in the fight against Ebola in Africa.

He recalled his visit to Cuba and his meeting with the historic leader of the Revolution, Fidel Castro Ruz.
