Brasilia, Brazil.-Brazil’s Workers’ Party (PT) ratified today its unrestricted defense of Cuba”s sovereignty and non-interference by the US government in internal affairs in that Caribbean country.

The stance of the PT was exposed in a note repudiating President Donald Trump’s decision during a visit to the state of Florida to unilaterally cancel the deal to thaw relations with the island signed by his predecessor, Barack Obama.

The announcement was made to please the sectors of the right of the Cuban community living there and using slanderous and ‘cold war’ rhetoric, stressed the communique of the political organization, signed by its president Gleisi Hoffmann and by the secretary of International Relations Monica Valente.

The ‘cold war’ – warns the document – should no longer be used as a principle for international relations; we must leave the past and strive to build a conflict-free Latin America and the Caribbean.

The path to transforming our region into the Zone of Peace proclaimed by the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC) in January 2014 involves the normalization of US relations with Cuba, as well as the self-determination of Latin American and Caribbean peoples, the note concludes.
