SAO PAULO, Brazil.- Former President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva announced he will return to the streets from January to talk with the people, with the poorest and to oppose the government of ultra-right-wing President Jair Bolsonaro.

In a speech in Sao Paulo on the occasion of the launching of the second edition of his book The Truth Will Win, Lula criticized the current Brazilian government.

Because they knew I was going to win, they built lies. Lies supported by the Brazilian press. I know they’re not going to give me a truce, but I also know that I’m not going to give it to them, Lula said.

In this way the former Brazilian leader referred to the previous year elections, when he led all opinion polls and was the great favorite, but the High Electoral Court vetoed his candidacy for being convicted in second instance, which led to Bolsonaro’s victory.
