MOSCOW, Russia.- Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov denied this Monday that the end of the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces Treaty will mean a return to the Cold War.

Rather, the diplomat considered, a new era came to be characterized by the course taken by the United States to destroy the entire control system on disarmament. That is very unfortunate, the Russian Minister expressed, when he spoke at a meeting at the University of Bishkek.

The Russian Chancellery regretted last Saturday Washington’s decision to suspend its obligations to the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces Treaty, as a prelude to its definitive abandonment, followed by the Kremlin’s announcement to also put an end to its commitments.

Russia reserves the right to act symmetrically in the development, production and deployment of medium-and short-range terrestrial missiles, the document indicates.
