Angela Merkel’s Government will not grant Ambassador status to Otto Gebauer.

BERLIN, Germany. – The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Germany announced on Wednesday that it does not recognize as diplomatic ambassador to Otto Gebauer, appointed by Venezuelan opposition member Juan Guaido to take that role in Berlin.

As published by German newspaper Neue Osnabrücker, the Government led by Angela Merkel would not give an official investiture to Gebauer, as the term of 30 days for the self-proclaimed president in charge of Venezuela to convene presidential elections expired.

This scenario, on the other hand, identifies politically and without legal effects the Venezuelan envoy as personal representative of Guaido.

With this initiative, Berlin joins the position of Spain, which also opted to give the appointment of Special Envoy to Guaido´s representative, and refused to grant the diplomatic status to the Ambassador of the opposition leader, Antonio Ecarri.
