Havana, cuba.-Cuban Vice President of the Council of Ministers and Minister of Economy and Planning, Ricardo Cabrisas, met the Director-General of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), Li Yong, official sources today reported.

Yong is on an official visit to Cuba. During the meeting held yesterday, which took place in a friendly and fraternal atmosphere, excellent working relations were stressed between this island and the UN agency, the latter will celebrate its 50th anniversary this year.

They also stressed the importance of UNIDO’s support in the Cuban development for five decades.

They particularly highlighted the current cooperation program for the 2016-2020 period. It includes actions to support the process of industrialization, renewable energy and food security, among others.

The Director-General of UNIDO reiterated the support of this agency to the industrial development of the country and further strengthen cooperative relations between both sides.

Yong was a deputy finance minister of the People’s Republic of China before holding the post of Director-General of UNIDO in 2013. During his previous functions, he visited Cuba, and this is the first stay in this archipelago as a director-general of an UN agency.
