Chancellor Bruno Rodriguez

Bruno Rodriguez reaffirmed Cuba´s position.

HAVANA, Cuba. – The politics of Donald Trump’s government towards Cuba was the subject of the press conference Cuban Chancellor Bruno Rodriguez offered from Austria in the context of his European tour.

He reviewed some of these measures, including the prohibition of the economic, commercial and financial relations of American companies with their Cuban counterparts related to the Revolutionary Army Forces and the Ministry of the Interior, as well as the individual trips of American citizens in the category of people- to-people exchanges.

Bruno Rodriguez pointed out the new policy towards Cuba includes the revision of all subversive programs against the constitutional order in Cuba, supposedly to ensure its effectiveness.

The repeal of Obama’s presidential directive, Rodriguez said, though deeply interventionist, recognized however Cuba´s independence, sovereignty, and self-determination.

Grotesque Show out of the Cold War

The Cuban Minister of Foreign Affairs noted that the announcement of Donald Trump’s policy towards Cuba was released in the Manuel Artime Theater in Miami; Artime was the civilian head of the mercenary brigade that invaded Bay of Pigs.

In a press conference, the Chancellor also signified it was a grotesque spectacle out of the Cold War, in front of a small auditorium composed of old henchmen and thieves of Batista dictatorship, mercenaries, terrorists, politicians and rogues.

He denounced that the American President greeted by his name some of them and they were at his side during the signing of the new policy towards Cuba, which implies a setback in the bilateral ties.

Bruno Rodriguez challenged the U.S. Government to deny or confirm the terrorist record of those accompanying Trump on June 16.

In Favor of Petty Interests

Chancellor Bruno Rodriguez said that President Trump, again ill advised, makes decisions that only favor petty interests of an aging minority of Cuban extremists.

Any analysis leads to anticipate that as in the past the measures will not meet the objectives raised, Rodriguez said during the press conference held this Monday in Vienna.

The diplomat pointed out that we must wait for the US government to announce the regulations implementing the measures before knowing their depth: however, he stressed these decisions are unaware of the Cuban people´s will to increase the relations with the United States.

These measures reinforce our patriotism, our dignity, our decision to defend the national independence with the spirit of Marti, Maceo and Fidel, Rodriguez said at the press conference.

An Energetic Rejection

Cuba strongly rejects the new measures tightening the blockade, which we will denounce at the next General Assembly of the United Nations, the Cuban Minister of Foreign Affairs remarked.

At the press conference held in Vienna, the Cuban Chancellor rejected Trump’s political manipulation and double standards on human rights, and in that sense he asserted that the US Government has no moral authority, nor can give any lessons.

Rodriguez offered data showing that 73 percent of Americans support the lifting of the blockade, as well as 63 percent of Cubans living in the United States and 62 percent of Republicans.

The Chancellor noted that Cubans living in the United States, the more young people are the more they express more support to the lifting of the blockade and the normalization of bilateral relations.

On the Basis of Mutual Respect

Rodriguez said that restrictions on the right to health, wage inequality against women, lack of education coverage and marginalization of minorities are known in the United States.

The high official said that war crimes and murders of civilians in U.S. military aggressions and interventions are common, and the massive and systematic facts of torture committed at Guantanamo Bay Naval Base are brutal.

He reiterated Cuba’s will to continue the respectful dialogue and cooperation and to negotiate the pending bilateral affairs on the basis of equality and respect for Cuba´s independence and sovereignty.

As demonstrated by the progress made in the last two years, it is possible to cooperate and coexist civilly, while respecting the profound differences between both governments, the Chancellor underlined.

We’ll Never Negotiate our Principles

Cuba will not make any concessions inherent in its sovereignty and independence, it will not negotiate its principles or accept conditionings as it has never done throughout the history of the revolution, Cuban Chancellor Bruno Rodriguez warned.

He stressed that as the Constitution establishes, we will never negotiate under pressure or threat, and we will act by invoking the proclamation of Latin America and the Caribbean as a zone of peace.

Rodriguez said it will not be a presidential directive of the United States that could distort Cuba’s sovereign course as more than 50 years of aggression, state terrorism, blockade, media war and subversion could not do.

Our people have taken all the risks, using what could they threaten us that they have not done before and failed?, the chancellor added, and sentenced, The Cuban people will decide sovereignly the necessary changes, we will not ask anyone opinion or permission.

Our Sovereignty Is Not Negotiated

Answering a question from Telesur, Chancellor Rodriguez reiterated that Cuba is ready to dialogue with the United States on cooperation and negotiation of outstanding issues of bilateral nature, in the same way that it refuses to negotiate any issue inherent in the sovereignty, independence and self-determination.

He insisted that a better deal with the United States would mean lifting the blockade, returning the territory of the Guantanamo Bay Naval Base, and accepting the concept of mutual compensation.

At the press conference in Austria the Cuban Minister of Foreign Affairs answered to a question from Prensa Latina agency that the measures announced by Donald Trump are absolutely unsustainable.

The blockade is a piece of the Cold War, it is criminal, genocidal, unfair and arbitrary, a gross violation of human rights harming the Cuban families, Bruno Rodriguez stressed.

Whose Interest Is?

The Cuban Chancellor affirmed that the US Government´s measures would harm the Cuban people and especially those sectors with which Washington claims to have greater interest in being related.

It will be impossible to harm the State sector without damaging cooperatives and small private businesses, in particular by eliminating individual trips in the people-to-people category, he stressed when answering questions at the press conference.

Rodriguez noted it is a curious paradox that Trump said that his priorities are the American citizens, job creation, and favoring American companies, and with these measures, he does exactly the opposite.

There is no doubt that these measures are against the very platform Trump proposed to his constituents and he won the presidency with them and the vote of the electoral colleges, the chancellor highlighted.

A Failed Policy

Trump won the election by offering a change to the Americans, but what he has done with Cuba is nothing creative, it is to return to the failed policy of ten American governments, the Cuban Chancellor said.

When answering questions from journalists, the Minister said there is no doubt that this policy rescues some icebergs from the Cold War, and he pointed out it would be necessary to wonder if it will only be in the position towards Cuba.

I see increasing threats to international peace and security, proliferation of conflicts, increases in military arsenals and weapons expenditures, the Chancellor underlined.

In an answer to Russia Today Channel, Rodriguez asserted there are reasons to worry and especially to act, to mobilize the collective consciousness for the survival of the human species and change the international order.
