Cuba´s and Puerto Rico´s flag

HAVANA, Cuba. – Cuba reiterated this Monday its support to the independence and self-determination of Puerto Rico, a Caribbean island subjected to colonial domination by the United States since 1898.

At a meeting of the United Nations Special Committee on Decolonization, the Cuban alternate Permanent Representative, Ana Silvia Rodriguez, recalled the Boricuas´ right to decide on their destiny, according to the resolution of the General Assembly on the Granting of Independence to Colonial Countries and Peoples.

The definitive solution of Puerto Rico’s fate is not an internal issue of the United States, it is an issue for the Special Committee and the entire international community, Rodriguez said.

In addition to ratifying the Cuban support to the free determination of the Boricua nation, the diplomat highlighted the historical ties uniting both peoples.
