Note from the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Cuba

HAVANA, Cuba.- The Ministry of Culture reports that the funeral honors of Prima Ballerina Assoluta Alicia Alonso will take place next Saturday, October 19 at the Gran Teatro in Havana that bears his name, starting at 9:00 in the morning. Our people will be able to come to pay tribute to their great artist.

According to the will of his loved ones, her remains will be buried that same day in a family pantheon in the Necropolis of Columbus.

The cultural institutions, the organizations of creators, the Cuban artists and writers, according to the relatives of Alicia Alonso, dedicate to her, not a duel, but a great tribute that will be shared by all his people, in the present Day of Cuban Culture.

The Ministry of Culture will provide more information on the details of the funeral in the coming hours.

Our condolences come to Alicia’s family, the National Ballet of Cuba and the many who admire and love her, in Cuba and in other parts of the world.
