Havana, Cuba. - The future of nations and identities depends on the capacity -as Fidel would say- to revolutionize until the foundations, the educational concepts, Ena Elsa Velázquez Cobiella, minister of Education, asserted in Havana in the 2011 International Congress on Pedagogy.
When offering the lecture titled The Challenge to Education: The future of Latin American and Caribbean Nations, in the opening of the event, she pointed out that peoples hope of the forum some debates on the essence of an education based on native roots.
Ena Elsa Velázquez Cobiella said the fundamental transformations of the Cuban education make part of the answers to the changes happening in the country to solve the existing problems.
She emphasized that today, before the economic crisis, the climatic deterioration of Nature, the climate change and pandemics, it is necessary to obtain a greater level of preparation of people.
A encouraging regional situation
We arrive at the 2011 International Congress on Pedagogy with a complex and simultaneously hopeful situation in the area, when several countries are declared as Free of Illiteracy Territories, Ena Elsa Velázquez assured.
When inaugurating the event in Havana, the Minister of Education indicated in lecture that the pedagogical and educative thought in the area express the advances of the Latin American ideas of our national heroes whose highest expression is ALBA.
This Tuesday, in the Convention Palace it will begin the sessions of work of the 2011 International Congress on Pedagogy, that will favor exchange as well as the projection of new conceptions before the present challenges.
In the opening of the meeting there were presents José Ramón Fernández, vice president of the Council of Ministers; and Olga Lydia Tapia, member of the Secretaryship of the Central Committee of the Party, among others leaders.
