Peculiarities of the Cuban medical collaboration

Havana, Cuba. - Cuba´s philosophy of cooperation in health with other nations answers to Fidel´s idea of going to remote places, of difficult access, where the professionals of the receiving countries do not do it or do not exist. So, it can be understood that Cubans have had to overcome, among others barriers, the one of languages and dialects.

According to Doctor Jorge Delgado, assistant director of International Cooperatio, “there are many examples of collaborators of health and other missions, that become fluent in dialects, and this makes them possible to communicate directly with the patient”.

Regarding the main professional challenges that imply missions, Doctor Delgado remarked the fact to guarantee an excellent medical attention and to be conscious of the high responsibility they acquire before those peoples and their authorities.
All kind of challenges
Among the challenges Doctor Delgado described to the Approach radio program, about the Cuban professionals of health´s permanence in other countries, he remarked the fact of facing societies submitted to extreme conditions of political nature, natural catastrophes or of other kinds.

Another challenge is “to know quickly and with quality the health situation in the countries where we collaborated, since we have to face some diseases that are not frequent, do not exist, or are eliminated in Cuba”.

Among them there are tuberculosis, tetanus, measles and meningitis, as well as malaria and other diseases transmitted by insects.

According to the assistant director of International Cooperation, those examples make Cuban professionals of health to deepen their knowledge of such diseases, their diagnosis, treatment and control.
