Cienfuegos, Cuba.- Cuban competitors won the main prizes at the International Underwater Photography Contest Ohotosub 2018 with surprising images of Cuba”s seabed.

Photosub 2018 opened on October 10, with diving tours that took place initially in seafloors with limited visibility, due to bad weather conditions, but then brilliant photos were taken.

The director of the international diving center Faro Luna (the venue of the event), who is also an instructor in this Cuban central-southern city, Ernesto Manzaneres, announced the winners on behalf of the jury, and stated that 16 images classified for the final.

The competitor with more points was Manuel Carmenate, who has been a Cuban diving instructor in Varadero beach for 28 years and who has participated in these events since 2012.

In the Environment category, the first place went to Luis Muiño, from Cuba, followed by Manuel Carmenate and Raul San Martino (Chile), with a Mention for Olga S. Buitron, from Mexico.

In the Environment with Model category, the winner was Elian Lopez, from Cuba, and his model and 13-year-old daughter, Nicole Lopez; while the second place went to Manuel Carmenate, and the third prize was won by Jorge Manuel Zamora, also from Cuba.

In the Fauna category, the leading position was taken by Julio Ruiz, followed by Manuel Carmenate in the second place and Luis Muiño in third position, all of them from Cuban.

In the Macro category, the place of honor was won by Julio Ruiz (Cuba), along with his compatriots Manuel Carmenate and Angel Cristobal Roca, in that order. Photosub 2018 was attended by 30 divers, including 10 foreigners, mainly from Chile, Canada and Mexico, among other nations.
