Havana, Cuba.- The members of the National Electoral Council are ready to take office after the new Electoral Law was published in Havana in the Official Gazette of the Republic.

The National Electoral Council will take office next week in a solemn ceremony to be held in the Jose Marti Memorial, located in the Revolution Square of this capital.

The 60th issue of the Official Gazette published the text of the new electoral legislation approved in July by the National Assembly of People’s Power.

On that occasion, President Miguel Diaz-Canel stated that the law ‘legally guarantees the election processes at different levels of the country.’

The new law regulates the election or appointment of members of electoral bodies, their constitution, powers and functioning.

It also describes the process of nomination and election of delegates to municipal assemblies of People’s Power, the constitution of these and the election of their president and vice president.

The 21 members of the National Electoral Council will function permanently with the mission of guaranteeing the democratic electoral and participation processes that are convened in the country.

The body is headed by Alina Balseiro (president), Tomas Amaran (vice-president) and Maria Esther Bacallao (secretary), all with extensive experience in the field.

With the Electoral Law and the installation of the Council, the conditions will be created to elect in October, in Parliament, the fundamental positions of the State and later, before the end of the year, to appoint the members of the Council of Ministers.
