Havana, Cuba.- Cuban Minister of Culture Alpidio Alonso today called for continued vigilance regarding women’s rights to ensure that the island’s achievements in 60 years of Revolution are not reversed.

Alonso reminded deputies of the National Assembly of People’s Power’s Standing Committee for Children, Youth and Women’s Rights that the government adopts strategies to eradicate discrimination, including based on race, inherited from the capitalist system.

In this regard, he mentioned the recent commission created for the investigation of these cases, headed by the President of the Republic, Miguel Diaz-Canel.

‘There are deep-rooted concepts, anm entire patriarchal culture, with the mentality of the colonizer and the colonized, and we have to free ourselves from that,’ he added.

Alonso noted that this struggle is waged in the cultural field, which must be relevant.

He said that Cuba’s achievements in terms of equal rights have not been spontaneous, but are the result of an effort that involves the State, women and society in general.

Likewise, he stressed that the battle for women’s rights is not over and called for highlighting the leading role of women in all sectors of Cuban society.

On the last day of work in standing committees, Cuban parliamentarians analyzed, among other issues, the actions of control and supervision of economic and social programs.
