Working with the same impetus after the festivities

HAVANA, Cuba.- On Tuesday The Vice-President of the Republic of Cuba, Salvador Valdes Mesa led the meeting of the Government Capital Support Group, which specified details on the activities designed to commemorate the 500th anniversary of the Village of St. Christopher of Havana next November 16.

Among other topics, the space served as a stage to clarify details of the activities that has been planned to develop as a tribute to the city, which over the years has become “dream of poets, inspiration of cantors”.

The also member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of Cuba acknowledged it has been a period of great effort, in which work has been done to concrete actions in different sectors and further beautify the city.

In these days we will stop to celebrate the 500th anniversary,” the Cuban Vice-President said, “but when the date passes we have to work again with the same impetus and continue to improve services, heritage fund, recreational spaces, to name just a few … and everything must continue to be marked by the organization and cohesion of our efforts.”

Reinaldo Garcia Zapata, President of the Provincial Assembly of People´s Power, explained that at this stage the actions of participation of the population in different places should be increased with the call for volunteer work to beautify neighborhoods and that each of them will live the festivities for the anniversary of the Cuban capital.

As explained at the meeting –attended by Luis Antonio Torres Iribar, First Secretary of the Party in Havana, and other leaders– the days before November 16 will also be conducive to reopen different objects of work that have been remodeled in the most diverse sectors; to carry out sporting activities; and recognize those who have performed outstandingly from the national or international level over the last few months.

In general culture in its most diverse manifestations will take Havana streets in days that have already been augured as unforgettable. Particularly the gala on the night of November 16 in front of the steps of the National Capitol has been conceived as a show to celebrate the life of this beautiful city through music, dance, poetry and the visual arts.

The President of the National Assembly of People´s Power, Esteban Lazo Hernandez, insisted that in the midst of the significant number of activities planned these days, neither beauty nor cleanliness of Havana in any of its spaces should be neglected. Discipline has to characterize everything we do, he emphasized.

The Vice-President of the Republic of Cuba catalogued the extensive program prepared to close with a brooch the festivities for the 500 years as one of great cultural richness and deep values.

In the midst of the effort made from the most diverse areas, Valdes Mesa pointed out in particular the recovery of the damage caused by the tornado that affected areas of Havana at the end of January of this year.

Valdes Mesa called to “culture of detail primes in every activity we do,” so nothing will overshadow the extraordinary efforts made to give life to this celebration.
