Cuban Judoca Ivan Silva Wins Silver Medal in Baku World Cup

Baku, Azerbaijan.- Cuban judo debuted on Monday its medal box in the World Discipline Championship with the silver medal achieved by Ivan Silva in the 90 kilograms, after losing the final to the Spaniard Nikoloz Sherazadishvili.

Silva, bronze in the Budapest 2018 Grand Prix, fell by an ippon in extra time to a rival of Georgian origin and based in Madrid, who gave Spain its first ever award in universal events.

In his first two appearances, the Cuban defeated Gabonese Paul Kibikai and Ukrainian Quedjau Nhabali by ippon.

In the third round he beat the Lebanese Nacif Elias, by wazari, and got a place in the semifinals with a win against the Japanese Kenta Nagasawa, by ippon in extra time. In order to reach the discussion of the title, he defeated Frenchman Axel Clerget by ippon.

The bronzed metals of the division were in the hands of Clerget, who defeated the German Eduard Trippel and the Japanese Nagasawa, winner in the extra time of the Hungarian Krisztian Toth. In both cases by ippon.
