ajedrez femeninoHavana, Cuba.-Cuban Grand Masters Maritza Arribas (2295 points ELO) and Yaniet Marrero (2255) will attend the Womken”s Chess World Championship in Tehran, Iran, from February 10 to March 5, it was announced in this capital.

The tournament in the Iranian capital will be disputed in six rounds by the Swiss system with the participation of 64 players, highlighting chinese Ju Wenjun (2547) -second in world ranking-, Zhao Xue (2522), Shen Yang (2460); Ukrainians Anna Muzychuk (2545) and Anna Ushenina (2452) and Russian Alexandra Kosteniuk (2530).

Among the big absentees organizers mentioned Chinese Hou Yifan (2651), leader in world ranking and winner of last years world title and Ukrainian Mariya Muzychuk (2546), who conquered the world title held last year and Ukrainian Mariya Muzychuk (2546), winner of the last world champiuonship held in 2015 in the Russian city of Sochi.

In that tournament, Cuba was represented by Marrero who defeated in the first phase Armenian Elina Danielian, by 1.5-0.5; but was later eliminated by Georgian Meri Arabidze, said Granma newspaper.

Both Arribas and Marrero will be present at the final of the 52nd National Championship to be held in Matanzas province (west) between January 20 and February 2.

In the national women’s tournament of this Caribbean island will compete 12 players, among them stand out Grand Masters Lisandra Ordaz (2392) and present Cuban champion Oleiny Linares (2242).
