Washington, United States.- The new restrictions on US citizens to visit Cuba will impact against Cuban people and US companies providing job openings which pay their corresponding taxes, a specialized travel organization said today.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, Cuba Educational Travel (CET) lashed out at the US Treasury Department announcement to further restrict US citizens to travel freely to the neighboring nation.

Donald Trump´s administration eliminated people-to-people travel, a category most commonly used by US people to visit Cuba, and called off authorizations for all recreational and passenger ships, including cruises, yachts and sailboats, as well as private jet travels, the CTE explained.

Collin Laverty, CTE president, believes that such restrictions are a political action directed to the southern state of Florida in the period previous to the 2020 elections.

He estimated these are unfortunate actions ‘for millions of Cubans who will feel the crisis of fewer US visitors to Cuba’.

These are also ‘terrible for US companies that are providing employment and paying taxes in the United States, while creating an economic gap on the island nation.’

According to CET, the restrictions announced on Tuesday do not affect other 11 categories of legal travel to Cuba, including academic programs, professional meetings and support for the Cuban people. It will allow many US visitors to go on travelling to Cuba.

In addition, any people-to-people trip category (before today) will be ‘accepted’ and may continue as previously envisaged.

According to CET, it is not clear whether the people-to-people travel category is utterly eliminated or transferred from a general license to a specific one.

There are still several ways to go to Cuba legally. Commercial flights were left intact and any reservations previously made can go on, said Laverty, who stated they will study over the new restrictions and see how to continue legally helping thousands of US citizens travel to Cuba in the future.

CET stated that the United States has for decades imposed some restrictions on trade and travels to Cuba in an attempt to overthrow the Cuban government, it also added that such a policy has ‘failed miserably.’
