Havana, Cuba.- The recovery work is continuing Tuesday in Havana after the recent devastating tornado which caused four deaths, 195 injuries and severe material damage in several municipalities.

During a new meeting of the Council of Ministers this Monday evening, the Cuban President, Miguel Diaz-Canel, called to intensify the attention to the population and urged to collect the experiences left by the climatic phenomenon to incorporate them into prevention and disaster plans.

For his part, the Head of the National Civil Defense Staff, Ramon Pardo, explained that priority is given to sanitation and debris collection in the city.

Besides, he indicated that once the losses have been accounted for, the distribution of resources to supply the population’ basic needs will begin as soon as possible.

Regarding the restoration of electricity service, the Minister of Energy and Mines, Raul Garcia, said it is expected to be resolved next Thursday.

The main material affectations are focused on 10 de Octubre, Regla, Guanabacoa and San Miguel del Padron municipalities, where total and partial house collapses are reported, trees fall and posts of the electric and telephone lines.

Regarding housing, the Minister of Construction, Rene Mesa, confirmed that the greatest damage is in building roofs, which are still evaluated to begin the delivery of resources to those affected.

The first secretary of the Communist Party of Cuba in Havana, Luis Antonio Torres, detailed that so far the number of damaged houses amounts to 1,238, of which 123 are total collapses and 625 are partial.

He also explained that 224 houses have completely lost their roofs and 124 have been partially damaged. Since Monday morning, the people and workers of the construction, hydraulic and communal resources sectors and the Etecsa Telecommunications Company have been working in recovering those areas, supported by the Armed Forces and the mass organizations of the country.
