Havana, Cuba.-The UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) is cooperating today in Cuba in the development of pastures, like moringa and other protein plants.

We want the country to provide its own animal food, to replace food imports, Theodor Friedrich, top representative of that body in Cuba, told Prensa Latina.

After speaking about the collaboration with the island, he stated that the International Consultation carried out in October 2016 on preservation of agriculture, to which the strategy of the Ministry of Agriculture (MINAG) is a part, was a great issue discussed last year.

The official states the importance of the policy to develop this kind of agriculture and cattle raising, included in the production of food.

He also praised Cuba’s support to the holding in 2016 of the International Year of Vegetables, which are necessary plants for human and animal food.

The Institute on Pasture and Forage, founded 47 years ago and in which the cattle-breeding managerial group of MINAG is part, is seeking new varieties adaptable to climate change, which is a working line of that center.
