Ciego de Avila, Cuba.- Members of the Chinese community living in Cuba named Min Chi Tang, now in this eastern Cuban province, celebrated the arrival of the year of the Pig that will reign this year.

The activity was held in the Association of the Chinese community in Ciego de Avila, with the support of a group of officials from the Chinese Embassy in Havana, headed by Yao Fei, Political Advisor of the Chinese Embassy.

In a room adorned with attributes of the Asian country, the Dance of the Lion began the celebration, while children, youth and grandparents of the wushu school, demonstrated their skills and dexterity in the different styles of that autonomous martial arts of China.

He recalled that Cuba was the first country in Latin America to establish relations with the new China and since then the bonds of friendship and solidarity between both peoples have been strengthened.

Proof of this, he said, are the projects of Chinese collaboration that are being carried out on the island, and he cited the bioelectric plant that is being built in areas surrounding the sugar mill in Ciego de Avila, Ciro Redondo, to produce clean energy using cane bagasse and sugar cane.

The New Moon Year is celebrated in all countries where there are communities of Chinese immigrants.

The Min Chih Tang Association of Ciego de Ávila groups 270 associates, nine of them Chinese-born, who are committed to maintaining the customs and traditions of their ancestors, converting their facility into a center of reference for Chinese culture in the region.
