Havana, Cuba- Soledad Bauza, Deputy Resident Representative of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Cuba, said today in Havana that the National Program on Biodiversity is an essential backbone for facing climate change.
With regard to Cuba it is of vital importance, given its status as a small insular State, because it makes the country vulnerable to the average sea level rise, the increasing of temperature, and the intensification of the processes of drought, Bauza explained.

The program focuses on key objectives, including addressing the underlying causes of that phenomenon, controlling the main threats, promote its sustainable use and the conservation of ecosystems.

This strategy is the main action platform for the starting up of the strategic objectives defined in the national environmental policy, she said.
