Havana, Cuba.- Climate change, human impacts and maritime-recreational development are among the issues of the 11th Congress on Marine Sciences, to be held on October 15-19, the organizing committee posted on its website.

Conservation and biodiversity, as well as biotechnology and food security will also be discussed at MarCuba 2018, to be held at the Havana’s Conference Center.

With the motto Today’s sciences in the interest of future coasts and seas, specialists from Cuba, Mexico, Colombia, Costa Rica, Chile, the United States and Portugal will participate in symposia and workshops, related to the restoration of coral reefs, connectivity of the oceans and environmental education.

Sponsored by the Cuban Environment Agency, the Fisheries Research Center, and the Institute of Marine Sciences, among other entities, the event invites professionals linked to observation systems, coastal and marine services and technologies, to talk around maritime protection and the suitable use of species living there.

Prestigious institutions have already confirmed their presence at the Congress, among them the International Oceanographic Committee, the Florida Aquarium and the Harte Research Institute for Gulf of Mexico, United States.

MarCuba 2018 is a favorable occasion to expose the main challenges of these ecosystems, essential in the development of humanity and that make up much of the Earth’s surface.
