Senior citizens doing exercises in Cuba.

HAVANA, Cuba.- The ceremony for the start of the course in the Elderly Chair of the University of Havana began with a floral tribute before the mausoleum to Julio Antonio Mella, founder of the Jose Marti Popular University.

Teresa Oroza Fraiz, president of the academic precinct, said to Radio Reloj that this school year the students will carry out research on human development, heritage redemption, quality of life, psychological aspects, ageing and grandparent age.

Oroza pointed out that the course of the Elderly Chair of the University of Havana will have 500 students, who will attend several classrooms distributed throughout the Cuban capital.

In the ceremony, the Cuban Pedagogues’ Association awarded the Gloria Guerra Menchero Prize in the individual category to Professor Georgina Diosdada de Armas, and the collective to the Maria Caridad Molina Classroom.
