Miguel-Diaz-CanelHavana, cuba.-Trade unionists all over the world championed the strengthening for unity so as to face up the capitalist offensive at a meeting of the Executive Council of the World Federation of Trade Unions (WFTU), held at the Havana International Conference Center.

In the meeting, the role of the proletariat in fighting attempts to silence the demands of the working class was ratified, and the main challenges facing by globally progressive forces were also debated on, as aired by the Cuban television.

Speaking at the forum, the Cuban First Vice-President Miguel Diaz-Canel denounced that conservative forces and imperialism are currently trying to establish their hegemony, by using negatively ideological practices to break the identity of peoples, nations and the working class.

He stated that workers’ struggle must be geared towards confronting attempts to divide the international trade union movement as part of the capitalist and neoliberal restoration platform promoted by the United States.

Diaz-Canel referred to the case of Venezuela where, he stressed, the crucial battle for sovereignty, emancipation, integration and independent progress in Latin America and the Caribbean is being fought today.

Likewise, he highlighted the WFTU´s support for the Cuban people´s struggle against the economic, financial and commercial blockade imposed by the United States for over half a century, as well as in all battles for its sovereignty.

The WFTU, founded in 1945 with the main purpose of guaranteeing workers’ labor and social rights, is made up of several trade unions from 126 nations and 92 million members.
