HAVANA, Cuba. – José Ramon Machado Ventura, Vice-President of the Councils of State and Ministers, called to increase and diversify agricultural production in the municipalities in order to be self-sufficient, in a review meeting of the Ministry of Agriculture in Havana.

He said that it is necessary to take greater advantage of land and seeds through an efficient use. There should be no fear of raising the levels of production, because what is not consumed will be collected and exported in the future.
Minister of Agriculture Gustavo Rodriguez said that in this increase in production the Collecting Union plays an important role, as responsible of ensuring that the productions reach their destination in time.

He added that ensuring the presence and quality of seeds is essential for the yields the sector needs, however this remains a weakness.

To Move Forward at a Steady Pace

In the review meeting of the Ministry of Agriculture in Havana it was reported that 2017 ended with a growth of 3%, but productions do not satisfy the demand.

Encouraging livestock was another of the topics discussed, and Commander Guillermo Garcia, director of the company of Flora and Fauna, said that tourism and people´s food depends on that.

The head of the Agri-food Department of the Party, Santiago Perez, said there are still reserves that can be exploited more efficiently, as there is no choice but to move forward safely.

For the period that has just begun, among the objectives of the agriculture system are to promote the growth of production, increase efficiency in land use and boost livestock.
