GUANTANAMO, Cuba. – An extremely dry July exacerbates drought in Guantánamo, a province that contains in its reservoirs now a little more than a third of the water they were designed for.

The daily report by the Command Post of the Direction of Hydraulic Resources in the territory indicates that in the first week of this month precipitations behave scarcely to fifteen percent of the historical average.

The poor rains have only increased the filling of Pozo Azul and Los Asientos dams, located in Caujeri Valley, a horticultural and fruit emporium at the foot of Sagua-Baracoa Massif, where the gauges report the largest records.

The rest of the reservoirs tends to fall, as Faustino Perez dam, the main source of supply of the city of Guantanamo, which pin his hopes in the North-South Driver.
