Havana, Cuba.- The small town of Biran, where the leader of the Cuban Revolution Fidel Castro (1926-2016) was born 92 years ago, has hosted a popular consultation on a new constitution of the island.

Workers from the historic site located in the eastern province of Holguin and professionals from the cultural sector participated in the meeting to issue proposals and criteria for the letter of the Constitution approved on July 22 by the National Assembly of People’s Power.

According to local media, more than 50 people attended the consultation, as well as Holguin authorities and National Assembly MP Yusuam Palacios, who is the president of the Martiano Youth Movement.

In other provinces of the country, meetings have also begun on Monday to give their opinion on the project for the new Constitution, a process which will continue until November 15, in which Cubans living abroad will be able to participate from next month.

At the end of the consultation, the draft will be returned to the National Assembly, where the commission responsible for elaborating the Constitution will elaborate the final document to be submitted to an approving referendum.

The beginning of the meetings in the work and study centers, as well as in the community, took place on a historic date for the Cubans, when Fidel Castro’s Birth was celebrated.
