JAGUEY GRANDE, Cuba. – With the establishment of the cyclone alarm for Matanzas province, this Friday noon began the evacuation of residents in low-lying areas of the municipality of Jaguey Grande, where there have been strong floods before.

Neighbors of Cantarrana and San Bernardo districts, as well as in rural communities of La Luisa, Los Danieles, Raiz of Jobo, Topeca and La Montaña were moved to safe areas.

The Municipal Council of Defense in Jaguey Grande carries out the main actions, with the aim of safeguarding people´s lives before the Hurricane Irma progress.

In 2001, during Hurricane Michelle, those areas now evacuated were scenarios of the worst floods recorded throughout southern Matanzas.
