Havana, Cuba.- The Cuban Council of Ministers assessed the damages, debris collection and restoration of basic services after nine days of the passage of a tornado that hit Havana, official sources informed on Tuesday.

The follow-up meetings began last week after the tornado hit the municipalities of Regla, Guanabacoa and Diez de Octubre on Sunday, January 27.

Led by First Vice President Salvador Valdes, the Monday eveningt meeting addressed the issue of housing infrastructure, where about 3,780 homes suffered damages during the passage of the devastating tornado.

According to a summary of the Council of Ministers meeting, about 372 total collapses and 518 partial collapses were recorded, Construction Minister Rene Mesa said.

The resources to recover those damages are located in Havana and they are being distributed; at the same time, authorities have been finding solutions to deliver a home to those who lost it completely, he said.

Minister of Internal Trade, Betsy Diaz, said that until Monday, about 412 people had purchased construction materials at the points of sales established in neighborhoods.

About power service, the Council of Ministers informed on Monday that this service was already restored, taking care of the difficulties that may remain in specific places in the communities.

In case of telephone services in the areas damaged by strong winds, Communications Minister Jorge Luis Perdomo reported that power interruptions have been considerably reduced in Guanabacoa and Regla, but the actions tirelessly continue in 10 de Octubre to return 1,400 telephone services.

The Cuban first vice president called during the meeting to continue the recovery tasks organizedly and in close contact with the people.
