HAVANA, Cuba. – The presence of Cuban women in the new Parliament, which will have its constituent session on April 19, corresponds to respect, admiration, and above all, with the recognition of their worth and capacities.

This is the opinion of Elpidia Moreno, representative of the Federation of Cuban Women (FMC) in the National Candidacy Committee, who said that this is largely due to the conscious and systematic work of the organization, under thought of its eternal president, Vilma Espin.

Moreno highlighted the political will of the Revolutionary Government to make the females what they are today, protagonists in the current Cuban society and the construction of a prosperous and sustainable Socialism.

A female parliamentary, Moreno emphasizes, constitutes the recognition of a people who deposited in her all the trust and believes she is the best person to represent it.

he Pride of Representing a Whole People

As a representative of the Federation of Cuban Women in the National Candidacy Committee, Elpidia Moreno was in the western provinces during the consultation process for members, from which the final proposals for the new direction of the Parliament and the members of the Council of State will be produced.

On that process, she asserts it was a conscious, democratic and organized act of the deputies, who made their proposals individually.

Although it is not the first time she is related to a process of elections in Cuba, this has been an extraordinary experience for Elpidia Moreno, since it has allowed her to delve further into the democratic essence of the Cuban electoral system.

Moreno expresses her pride because more than half of the new Parliament is composed of women, an evidence of how much people value women’s work.
