SANTIAGO DE CHILE, Chile. – Hundreds of people showed up in Santiago de Chile in rejection of the official visit paid to that country by the President of Brazil, Jair Bolsonaro.
Boris Barrera, head of the Communist Party caucus in Congress and participant in the demonstration, described as an affront to the country the presence of Bolsonaro, a man who publicly expresses his admiration for Augusto Pinochet dictatorship.
Barrera further expressed that the Brazilian President, because of his misogynistic, racist manifestations, contrary to minorities, women and indigenous peoples, does not represent in any way the values of democracy and freedom.
The peaceful protest, which was finally repressed with jets of water and tear gas, also rejected the holding of the meeting of right-wing presidents of South America, with the aim of constituting PROSUR, a regional forum that is presumed reactionary and servile.
