Havana, Cuba.- Swiss-Cuban Chamber of Commerce and Industry condemned the activation of Title III of the Helms-Burton Act by the US government, stressing that it has a marked extraterritorial nature.

In a statement, the organization reminds that such law is rejected by the international community, especially by the European Union and Canada.

In this regard, this Chamber of Commerce explains that US sanctions cannot be applied in Switzerland. Title III allows US citizens to file lawsuits before US courts against individuals and enterprises which do business in Cuban in properties that were nationalized in the wake of the triumph of the Revolution on January 1, 1959.

Swiss-Cuban Chamber of Commerce and Industry also highlights the position of the Government of Havana, which repeatedly ratified its support to foreign firms in response to U.S. hostility.

In that sense, Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel recently told the foreign business community companies in the island are safe according to Cuban laws.

In addition, the Chamber of Commerce and Industry underscored in its statement that the UN General Assembly has voted overwhelmingly during the last 27 years against the US blockade imposed on Cuba.

Despite this situation, it highlighted, its members will continue boosting trade relations between Swiss and Cuban companies under the principles of reciprocity and free market economy.
