Madrid, Spain.- The government of Spain highlighted today the good relations and cooperation with Cuba and expressed the will to consolidate its links with the island.

In a communiqué, the Spanish Foreign Ministry expressed in those terms the work visit made this week to the European nation the first vice-minister of Foreign Relations of the Caribbean island, Marcelino Medina.

Medina met last Friday with Foreign Minister, Joseb Borrell and the Secretary of State for International Cooperation and for Iberoamerica and the Caribbean, Juan Pablo de Laiglesia.

During the two days of the Cuban Vice minister’s visit, ‘both governments could review the state of bilateral relations and discuss issues of common interest, as well as the agenda in the regional and multilateral fields’, indicated the press release.

In those meetings ‘the good state of those links was confirmed’ and of the cooperation between both countries, as well as ‘the will to expand ansd strengthen them and to that end, maintain political consultations of periodical nature in the future’, underlined the text.

Medina closed in Madrid a tour that included Russia, New Zeland, Timor Leste and Australia.

The diplomat was received by high personalities of the respective governments and Foreign Ministries, with who he exchanged on issues of common interest in the bilateral agenda and the international scenario.

Official sources confirmed at the beginning of the week that president of the government of Spain, Pedro Sanchez will make an official visit to Cuba on November 22 and 23.

The visit of the socialdemocrat leader will be the first official event by a head of the Executive of Spain to the island in the last 32 years.
