Regional Agency Celebrates Another Anniversary

CARACAS, Venezuela.- Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro recalled the seventh anniversary of the creation of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States, CELAC, a body focused on strengthening regional integration.

Through a message on Twitter social network, the head of State of Venezuela evoked his participation in the founding of the entity together with the then President Hugo Chavez.

The initial idea for the concretion of this intergovernmental mechanism arose in February of 2010 during the Summit of the Unit of Latin America and the Caribbean, held in Playa del Carmen, Mexico.

The regional agency promotes integration and development of Latin American and Caribbean countries, whose total population amounts to 620 million inhabitants, located along 20, 4 million square kilometers.
