HAVANA, Cuba.- On the occasion of the 166th anniversary of Jose Marti’s birth, all over the world the power of his word and his imprint to achieve the independence of Cuba is highlighted.

The most universal of Cubans lived for 15 years in New York, where he founded Patria newspaper, as compatriots and friends of the island recalled before his equestrian statue in Central Park. In China it was emphasized his thought as a reference in the search for social justice.

Vietnamese and Cubans took the opportunity to commit to strengthening relations between the two peoples. They also paid tribute to Marti in Russia and various Latin American capitals, where his preaching in favor of the unity of the peoples of the region was remarked.

The mayor of Masaya, Nicaragua, said that Marti left a legacy to be remembered on a daily basis, while in Mexico the validity of his word and emancipatory thought was highlighted.
