Havana, Cuba.-Ireland”s President, Michael Higgins, will visit the ”Pedro Kouri” Tropical Medicine Institute today to learn about Cuba”s scientific progress as part of his official visit to Cuba.

This scientific institution dedicated to the scientific research and innovation for the prevention, control and elimination of infectious diseases, is internationally recognized due to its relevant results and prizes obtained by its specialists.

Upon his arrival at Havana on February 15th, Higgins has complied with an intense agenda that included a meeting, that same day, with his Cuban peer, Raul Castro, at the Palace of the Revolution, seat of the Executive.

He also opened the exhibit ‘The Irish in Latin America,’ which includes the participation of the son of that European nation in the Latin American independence movements, from 18th century to 19th century, as well as their contributions to the region in the economic, political, social and cultural sphere.

The Irish head of State also participated in activities related to the 26th Havana International Book Fair, and will offer a keynote speech, before concluding his visit on Saturday, February 18th.
