International jurists call for annulment of Lula’s conviction.

BRAZILIA, Brazil.- Thirteen international lawyers and lawyers call former Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva a political prisoner and call for his conviction to be annulled.

Through a declaration, they recalled that last year they warned that the process against Lula was to put him out of the run towards the approaching presidential election, in which far-right Jair Bolsonaro succeeded

The jurists pointed out that Lula’s investigation and trial were biased from the outset by Brazil’s former judge and current Justice Minister, Sergio Moro, who sentenced him for undetermined facts, given the absence of evidence.

The signatories of the declaration include former Spanish judge Balthasar Garzon, Yale Professor of American Law and Political Science Bruce Ackerman, Spanish lawyer Joan Garces, Frenchman William Bourdon and German Wolfgang Kaleck.
