Berlin, Germany.- Major German news media are highlighting today the results of Saturday”s meeting between Federal Chancellor Angela Merkel and Russian President Vladimir Putin, in particular their opinions on the crises in Syria and Ukraine.

According to a report published by Merkur newspaper, during the three-hour meeting in the Castle of Meseberg, near this capital, the two leaders expressed their willingness to solve the conflicts in those countries, although details of the agreement were not disclosed.

Regarding Syria, Merkel expressed, before the meeting with the Russian president, her government’s concern about the humanitarian crisis, despite a decrease in armed confrontations, and called for a constitutional reform as well as new elections in the Arab nation.

The German government is part of the US-led international coalition that supports the opposition forces, including Islamic groups allegedly linked to terrorists.

For his part, Putin called on Germany and other western countries to contribute to Syria’s reconstruction and the return of refugees to their homeland.
