Havana, Cuba.- Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel on Thursday called on the international community to prevent an aggression by the United States against Venezuela under the disguise of a humanitarian intervention.
‘The revolutionary Government of Cuba denounces the escalation of pressures and actions by the US government to prepare a military adventure disguised as a humanitarian intervention in the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela,’ Diaz-Canel wrote on his Twitter account.
The president repeated Cuba’s stance, made public on Wednesday night in a communiqué from the Foreign Ministry, which warned about the movement of planes carrying troops to Caribbean airports, including those in Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic, ‘certainly without knowledge by the governments of those nations’.
According to the press release, media circles, even in the United States, have revealed that extremist leaders have requested financing and the direct and detailed organization from Washington of the attempted coup d’état in Venezuela by the illegal self-proclamation of a president (Juan Guaido).
They are the ones who, personally or through the Department of State, exercise pressure on several governments to force their support for the arbitrary call to new presidential elections in Venezuela, the Cuban Foreign Ministry stated.
It insisted on rejecting the US efforts to fabricate a humanitarian pretext to launch a military aggression against the country that has the world’s largest proved reserves of oil.
‘Similar conducts and pretexts were used by the United States in the prelude of the wars it launched against Yugoslavia, Iraq and Libya, at the price of huge losses of human lives and huge suffering,’ Cuba warned.
In addition to demanding an end to Washington’s crusade against Venezuela and the protagonism of the world community to stop it, Diaz-Canel dedicated today’s message on Twitter to Valentine’s Day.
