Santiago de Chile, Chile.- Cuba, which is a founding member of ECLAC, will be in charge of the organization of the 37th session from May 7 to 11, with venue at the Havana Convention Center, the organization confirmed today.

Press sources of the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) recalled that Cuba has participated since 1948 in the activities of this agency of the United Nations Commission, and for the second time in the history will be the scene of the biennial meeting.

The official opening ceremony will be held on Tuesday, May 8 and will be headed by Alicia Bárcena, executive secretary of ECLAC, Luis Videgaray, Secretary of Foreign Affairs of Mexico, which country is currently holding the presidency of the Commission.

Likewise, the attendance of a high representative of the Government of Cuba is expected, a country that will assume the presidency of the ECLAC for the next two years, and to confirm, António Guterres, Secretary General of the UN.

Bárcena will present a report of activities with the work done in the last two years. Likewise, the program of work and calendar of conferences that will guide the work of ECLAC during the next biennium (2019-2020) will be approved.

The event will bring together representatives of the 46 member countries and 13 partners and the participation of more than 25 ministers, deputy ministers and other high authorities is expected.

During the five days of the meeting there will be a seminar commemorating the 70th anniversary of the body that will be held this 2018, another high-level forum on the inefficiency of inequality and a talks between foreign ministers and high-level authorities.
