Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.- Cuba on Friday opened its first diplomatic mission in the United Arab Emirates, Cuban diplomatic sources said.

Ahmed Sari Almazrouei, deputy secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), received Jorge Leon Cru, who is taking over as ambassador.

During the meeting, bilateral issues were discussed and Almarzouei highlighted his country’s interest in opening this office, which is beneficial for both nations.

He also stressed that relations between Cuba and the UAE are based on close ties which existed between the father of the homeland, Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan AlNahyane, and the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro.

Almazrouei reaffirmed these ties will continue to be strengthened.

Leon, for his part, thanked local authorities for their support and the attention received since his arrival in the country.

The Cuban diplomat acknowledged this nation’s support for Cuba and its vote in favor of the Cuban Revolution against the US blockade at the United Nations General Assembly recently.
