GEORGETOWN, Guyana.-The secretary general of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM), Irwin LaRocque, reiterated in Georgetown that integration is the right route to provide sustained development in the area.

During a preparation meeting of the 29th summit of the Organization, to be held in Haiti next February 26 and 27, the leader asked to maintain unity to ensure the prosperity of all the member countries of the group.

LaRocque added that at the meeting of heads of State and Government in Port-au-Prince, the agenda envisages urgent issues such as fighting crime and violence, widespread phenomena in some CARICOM countries.

He indicated that Caribbean leaders will also exchange on disaster management and preparedness, which are increasingly frequent and intense due to climate change that provoke extreme and severe weather events.
