BRAZILIA, Brazil.- Former candidate Fernando Haddad, who relieved Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva on the Workers’ Party ballot during the past presidential elections, will be prosecuted on charges of alleged passive corruption and money laundering.

Another five people have also been identified, including the former treasurer of the Workers’ Party, Joao Vaccari Neto, for alleged irregular handling following the campaign that led Haddad to win the mayor’s office in Sao Paulo, in 2013.

The press office of the former Brazilian candidate issued a statement to reject the accusation and call it another attempt to recycle the already known and disqualified delation of Ricardo Pessoa.

Meanwhile, Vaccari’s defense attorney highlighted that his client was never a campaign treasurer or solicited resources for that purpose.
