Bolsonaro withdraws Brazil from Global Migration Pact

BRAZILIA, Brazil.- Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro said this Wednesday that his country is withdrawing from the UN Global Compact for a safe, orderly and regular migration.

Brazil is sovereign to decide whether or not to accept immigrants, Bolsonaro highlighted in Twitter, and added that whoever arrives in that country must be subject to its laws, rules and customs, as well as sing its anthem and respect its culture.

If no person enters our houses, nor will anyone enter in Brazil through a pact adopted by third parties, Bolsonaro continues saying in the same tweet and emphasizes: No to the immigration pact.

The pact was ratified in December 2018 by 152 nations, Brazil among them, and five countries voted against: The United States, Israel, Hungary, Poland, and the Czech Republic.
