Kingstown, Jamaica.- St. Vincent and the Grenadines is implementing Fidel Castro’s initiative to build a modern medical and diagnostic center, which has technical assistance, equipment and Cuban medical personnel, diplomatic sources in the country announced today.

At the opening ceremony on Tuesday, important officials from both nations were present, including the Cuban ambassador here, Vilma Reyes, and the Prime Minister of Granada, Ralph Gonsalves.

During the ceremony, Reyes stressed that, with the opening of this center, the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution’s dream will come true, and highlighted the contribution of Cuba in the different stages of the project, which underscores the Cuban will to ‘stay firm in our internationalist vocation’.

Granada’s Minister of Health, Welfare and the Environment, Luke Browne, said the new medical complex in Georgetown, where it is located, is a tribute to the friendship between the two Caribbean nations.

Gonsalves, for his part, assured Fidel Castro would be proud of the medical center, and recalled the first time he spoke to him about the possibility of building such a facility.

Cuba and Saint Vincent and the Grenadines established diplomatic relations in 1992.
