Havana, Cuba.- Health authorities of the Calixto Garcia hospital in Havana offered Tuesday details of the state of 19 people who have received care in that institution after injuries suffered on Sunday during a strong tornado.

According to the director of the medical center, Edilberto Gonzalez, four patients remain in serious condition and with a reserved prognosis, given the complexity of the injuries.

The other patients show a stable and favorable evolution, the doctor told the national television, who highlighted the work of the multidisciplinary team responsible for assisting the victims of the phenomenon which caused four deaths and nearly 200 injuries, in addition to extensive material damage in several Havana municipalities.

Osvaldo Jimenez,deputy director of Emergency and Serious Patient Care, told Prensa Latina that the injuries are concentrated in the limbs, soft tissues, thorax, abdomen and skull.

Some of those patients expressed their gratitude for the care received at the Calixto Garcia hospital, where at first more than 30 people were treated, and shared their experiences of the tragic day.

According to young man Osmani Garcia, the tornado surprised him on the street, while Mercedes Pedroso recalled the strength of the winds and their impact on the houses.
